Lil MAC Kids,
Joshua was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder at the age of three. He met all of the major milestones until around the age of two when he seemed to want to interact less with people. We immediately begin working with the Early Intervention department in our county. Joshua improved a bit but, it was evident by comparing him with his peers (he was enrolled in a daycare) that he required a bit more support.
When Joshua began attending the pre-school program in our local school district, the intervention specialist as well as the entire staff working within the “contained” classroom were attentive and have taught him so many life skills (zipping his coat, putting on his shoes, taking turns, washing his hands, etc.) but, we were still struggling with ways to encourage interaction at home. We initiated Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy and Joshua has shown significant improvement working with his therapist (attends to tasks longer, more eye contact, independently follows an activity schedule).
We will use the grant to increase the number of hours ABA therapy he currently receives. Once again, we’d like to extend our deepest gratitude for your generosity and support.
